Standard: Uses and disclosures for cadaveric organ, eye or tissue donation purposes.
A covered entity may use or disclose protected health information to organ procurement organizations or other entities engaged in the procurement, banking, or transplantation of cadaveric organs, eyes, or tissue for the purpose of facilitating organ, eye or tissue donation and transplantation.
Action Items:
1) Obtain and review policies and procedures related to disclosures of PHI for purposes of cadaveric organ, eye, or tissue donation.
2) Obtain and review a sample of disclosures of PHI to organ procurement organizations to determine whether such disclosures are consistent with the policies and procedures and the established performance criterion.
